The RareEarth EcoHouse is an environmentally friendly and low-cost prototype for wet tropical regions. It is optimized for building with earth, an abundant local resource, and a very ecological material. It is designed according to the rammed-earth building technique, traditional under most of these latitudes. Local laterite earth is even better. The roofing structure might preferably be out of smoked bamboo or steel (termite resistant).

The prototype aims at promoting sustainable building in tropical regions :

  • natural ventilation and cooling through thick walls and double roof – avoids air-conditioning
  • local materials – less transport and less dependance on expensive imported products
  • low-cost – cheaper than conventional building and though more democratic
  • less tools and machines needed
  • adaptable according to traditional patterns and craftsmanship
  • more beautiful

The RareEarth EcoHouse is a scheme showing low-cost and sustainable building concepts. The design is an extended version of a house designed and built by Atelier Switzer in Ghana. Please contact us for support or customization. It might also be upgradable with higher dimensions and standards, we are here to help.
